Assuring Cross-Border Connectivity for IoT Operators

IoT applications can be static or nomadic. In both cases, consistent QoS and service visibility are essential.

They can also demand connectivity to different networks – particularly for nomadic use cases that frequently cross borders and roam. Centralize SIM / eSIM management and reporting are essential for large fleets of remote devices.

Common User Benefits

Everyone in your team can obtain:

Service Quality Monitoring and Analysis by IoT Category

Our solution delivers deep insights into IoT traffic quality, detecting and resolving service issues using standard mobile network KPIs, organized as service quality indicators (SQIs). Users can benefit from powerful analytics and workflows for detailed monitoring, troubleshooting, and traffic exploration.

Detailed Protocol Analysis

The IoT Portal helps users analyze failure ratios across supported protocols with guided, streamlined workflows. It enables monitoring of long-term trends to manage traffic growth across IoT categories, roaming countries, and networks. Each protocol has a dedicated workflow for in-depth root cause analysis and troubleshooting.

Visibility Down to Single IoT Device Level

Polystar’s solution offers a clear overview of recent activity from a specific device or firmware, including device details, service quality indicators, and network interactions. Users can quickly view the last country or network visited, signaling events, and data usage. This enables effective monitoring and analysis of device performance and usage trends, improving IoT management.

Questions and Answers

IoT Portal

  • Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) is a low-power, wide-area network (LPWAN) technology developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to enable efficient communication for devices transmitting small amounts of data over extended periods. It is particularly suited for applications such as smart meters, environmental monitoring, and asset tracking, where devices require long battery life and may need to operate in challenging coverage areas. Key benefits of NB-IoT include enhanced indoor coverage, support for a massive number of low-throughput devices, and reduced device complexity, leading to lower costs and extended battery life.

  • LTE-M is similar to Nb-IoT in that it supports low-power devices that may need to be deployed in remote locations or where coverage can be hard to obtain for classical mobile devices. However, it offers enhanced data rates when compared to Nb-IoT and is optimized for more frequent radio activity. So, it can be more suitable for applications that transmit / receive data more often, and for which nomadic performance is required – asset tracking, logistics, healthcare and more. There are two versions, Cat-M1 and Cat-M2, which offer different blends of power and data access.

  • 5G Standalone (SA) enhances Internet of Things connectivity through a dedicated 5G core, enabling features like network slicing, ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC), and support for massive device connectivity. These capabilities make it ideal for advanced use cases, such as autonomous vehicles, smart manufacturing, and remote healthcare. Its full potential is still emerging, but 5G SA is already key to building scalable, real-time IoT ecosystems.

  • Mobile data, voice and messaging as well as outbound roaming each have unique service characteristics, which are reflected in the respective SQIs and KPIs. The Corporate portal enables you to analyze this data in real time for troubleshooting purposes. Monthly statistics data enables users to compare and rank the customer experience at corporate level.
