Overview: Elisa Home Battery Service
Gridle partnered with Elisa to help the operator launch a turnkey home battery service for Finnish households. The Elisa Home Battery Service (in Finnish: Elisa Kotiakku) gives customers an easy way to manage their energy use with a modular battery system, smart software, and a simple installation process. It allows households to store affordable electricity, use it during expensive hours, improve their energy independence, and even earn by contributing to grid stability.
Behind the scenes, Gridle supplied the core components that make the service work as a white-label service. This included the user app, the optimization engine, the hardware selection, and all necessary technical readiness. Elisa then deliverd the service to consumers under its own Elisa brand.
Challenge
Finland’s residential energy landscape is changing quickly. About a third of households now use spot‑price electricity contracts, leaving them exposed to large price swings over the course of a single day. At the same time, solar power is becoming more common, but many homes still lack a practical way to store the energy they produce and use it when it delivers the most value. Households need a simple and reliable solution that smooths out price spikes, helps them get more benefit from their solar panels, and creates opportunities to earn new income, all without complicated setup or large upfront costs.
Elisa was determined to solve this challenge, but developing a home battery service from scratch would have been a major undertaking. To accelerate the launch, Elisa partnered with Gridle, who delivered the entire solution as a fully white‑label service.
Solution
Gridle provided the full residential home battery technology stack that Elisa needed to launch a turnkey home battery service. This included a user app, device connectivity, forecasting, multi‑market optimization, virtual power plant (VPP) participation, and the technical foundations required to operate the service reliably.
Elisa integrated these capabilities into its own customer journey, billing, and support processes and then launched the offering as Elisa Kotiakku with a simple monthly‑fee model and a fully managed installation and service experience. Gridle’s AI determines when the battery should charge from the grid or rooftop solar and when it should discharge during high‑price periods.
As part of the solution, Gridle’s platform also enables each household battery to connect to Gridle's Virtual Power Plant. This allows individual homes to earn new income from participate in national grid balancing without any additional effort from the customer.
Impact
Elisa Kotiakku has demonstrated clear and measurable benefits for households across Finland. The combination of a simple service model, intelligent optimization, and seamless delivery has made the offering both impactful and easy to adopt. The results highlight how well the Gridle‑powered solution performs in homes.
