Elisa Distributed Energy Storage (DES), launched in early 2020, was developed to optimize Elisa Corporation’s distributed battery systems across telecom base stations. What began as an internal initiative quickly scaled into one of Europe’s largest Virtual Power Plant (VPP) projects—spanning over 2,000 sites and managing a total capacity of 150 MWh. Today, DES builds on Elisa’s century-long legacy of innovation and automation, delivering intelligent energy optimization services to telecom operators, energy-intensive industries, and households across Europe.
